At IAA Conference, two extraordinary women—two lăutărese from distinct cultures and communities within Romania—will weave together their sonic vibrations: Bianca Mihai, the soulful voice of Romani culture, and Aylin Cadîr, the ethereal voice of Turkish-Romanian heritage.

The Artistic Concept
LĂUTĂRESELE is an artistic concept envisioned by ȘARAIMANIC. At its core sits “femeia care se cântă”—the woman who sings her Self into being, a woman among women, eternally uplifted and accompanied by the lăutari – musical masters who are the keepers of Romania’s living music traditions.
ȘARAIMANIC is a cultural movement; a stage both visible and invisible for the lăutari and their female counterparts, the lăutărese of Romania and the world. Through music, Șaraimanic bridges different worlds together.
Cultural Context & Artistic Philosophy
Throughout history, the Balkans have been at the intersection of vast empires. By the very nature of time and migration, these empires rewrote borders, intertwining distinct communities and their cultures.
In Eastern Europe, Romania has always been a nurturing mother to a multitude of ethnic and cultural identities—both those born of this soil and those who sought refuge within it.
Within every community, the true keeper and creator of identity is the woman. That is why, when a woman sings from the depths of a specific place, it feels as though she is giving birth to that land all over again. The landscape and its culture are continuously regenerated through her incantations.
When a woman sings, she sings her Self into being. This is the foundational creed of LĂUTĂRESELE ȘARAIMANIC.
